As part of our 'space' inquiry, we made straw rockets today. After we built them we had lots of fun blowing them and launching them round the class! The best games were trying to shoot the rockets over the hanging art wires or trying to launch them across the room into a box. Some of them almost made it into orbit.

Hockey
We went down to the hall today and had a go at some cool hockey activities. Thanks to Benedict from the Small Sticks programme for running the session. It was lots of fun and the activities were aimed well at our level.

Assembly Item
The children in Room 4 did an awesome job hosting the game show at the hui today. Most the kids in the school wanted to come up on stage and play the game (especially when the lollipops turned up!) Great job by Aarushi as the amazing game show host. You were a star! Thanks to Toni (Olivia's Mum) for helping to take photos until my camera's memory card packed a sad after just one photo.

Anti Gravity Contraption
Today we talked about gravity as a force and how it works. We then looked at magnetism and I set a challenge to the children. Could they design an anti gravity device using only a paper clip, some string and a magnet. Their challenge was, could they suspend the paper clip in mid air somehow by getting the magnetic force to overpower the force of gravity. I gave a couple of clues (that seemed to involve a dog on a leash pulling towards it's food bowl!?) and left them to figure it out. Many groups were able to create a successful contraption in the end, but well done to Daniel, Roman and especially Jayden who were the first mad scientists to figure it out for themselves.
Cross Country
Well done to all the children who took part in the school cross country today. It was the first really cold day this year and was not ideal conditions for running around on wet footpaths!
