This afternoon we tried some team building games after the pool opening ceremony finished. The children had to work together to build some human towers and a human bridge. So basically, they had a lot of fun climbing on each other!

Daily Reading / Writing Activities
We have started our reading and writing independent activity focus. These activities are always between 11am - 12pm and here the children select what tasks they would like to do and when. This will hopefully encourage them to become more independent with their own learning habits. There are many activities for them to choose from: reading research, computers, silent reading, literacy games, plays, writing tasks, listening to a recorded story and each day I work on the mat with one or two groups as well. I have been impressed with how well the students have started working on these tasks and it is great to see them taking ownership of what they are doing. Thanks to Nakul who was our class blog photographer for today.
Statistics - Marble Ramps
Today we looked at how marbles roll down ramps. We discovered many ways that the marble can be made to roll further / shorter distances. In groups we experimented with the slope of the ramp, the starting position of the marble, the type of surface to roll the marble across and with using different sized marbles. Next week we will be completing some challenges with our ramps and we will be tallying our results and displaying them as part of our statistics maths unit. Thanks to Irene (our ESW) for taking the photos.

Problem Solving
Today we played a problem solving game called 40x Escape on the computers. The children were trying to see how many of the problems they could solve. Here are some of our early birds having a go at it before school today.

2 Truths and 1 Lie
The children are working on an art display which will show them each as a lego character. Part of this display involves them having to create 3 short sentences about themselves, where 2 of them are truths and 1 of them is a lie. The aim of the game is to try to guess which is which. Here is are a sample of a few of them. They will all be up on the classroom wall soon.
Minecraft Zoo Enclosures
The children in Room 4 are about to each begin a simple animal research for Reading. We will be learning how to take notes on a chosen subject and how to reference these. We will be looking for information in 3 sections: Where does the animal live? What does the animal eat? How does the animal behave? Once we have gathered information about this animal, we will each be able to make a minecraft animal enclosure on the computer. These enclosures will make up the Room 4 zoo which hopefully we will be able to display as a completed 3D world once it is all made. We are looking forward to getting started!

Kelly Sports Fun
Today we met the team from Kelly Sports who let us play some really fun games. There was lots of cool equipment to use and we all got to rotate around the different activity stations. A notice came home today for parents if they would like their children to be involved in the programme they are offering.
Fair or Not Fair
Here we are testing out a range of probability games to see if they are fair or not. The children worked in groups to test these games and recorded their results in a tally chart. Our plan is to better understand what makes a game fair.
